      Hi Justin, thanks for the idea! I will add it to my list. I'm working on a series of the late developing English consonants (th, sh, ch, r, l etc) and a vocal function exercise video right now, but can consider doing f after. In the meantime, this video is geared towards children, but hopefully it helps for the time being! ruclips.net/video/0VFJLEymCC8/видео.html

    As a layperson/stroke survivor, I can testify to the value of completing exercise #4. There's a temptation to skip it because it's not follow-along, or one doesn't have a special passage to read, or think 'I will do it later'. My SLP had me read my novel aloud, practicing these strategies for 10 to 15 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day. It was surprisingly difficult at first (I guess we don't often read aloud continuously as adults!), but after 2 weeks my speech has improved dramatically. And I am still practicing using these tips. I am so grateful to Kasondra for recording these videos. They reinforce, explain, and allow me to leverage my sessions with my SLP.

    That is really helpful. I find when I do the tongue narrowing in the third exercise that my tongue is curled upwards in a U shape, whereas yours appears flatter and triangular. Do I just need more practice with a mirror?

    • @SpeechSecrets
      @SpeechSecrets 5 дней назад

      I cannot comment on your experience specifically. However, it took me some practice with a mirror to be able to achieve the fat/narrow tongue exercise consistently. Sticking one’s tongue out slightly may also help achieve the narrow position.

    • @sabinevanliempd6788
      @sabinevanliempd6788 3 дня назад

      Same here David - the narrowing seems most difficult. I also narrowing my mouth instead of my tongue. We'll just keep practicing!

    This is unrelated but I can't swallow around a crush. I see someone just absolutely gorgeous and suddenly I can't stop smiling and I can't swallow my spit. At least not until my mouth is really full. Sometimes I have to look up a little and talk like I have a hot potato in my mouth to keep it balanced. I guess my brain takes the "girl drools over her crush" thing literally, haha.

      Stimuli affecting the central nervous system and causing tightening of laryngeal muscles or changing of respiratory patterns could have a secondary impact on swallowing. The central nervous system is also involved in the automatic swallow reflex and respiratory patterns. Similarly, "car" often sounds like "tar" when I try to say it. This has been a challenge for me since birth, and now that I'm 18, i don't know why this happens may be i am lazy to pronounce or i just can't.And also,there are no specialists or professionals nearby who can help. What is a speech disorder when a person cannot pronounce the letter D or R? and how to fix?

    • @SpeechSecrets
      @SpeechSecrets 12 дней назад

      R is particularly a tough sound and one of the later developing consonants for native English speakers. I am working on a sound articulation series and hope to include R later on. Speech therapists usually work with articulation difficulties by helping the person to make the sound in isolation, then word level, and in various sound contexts, requiring A LOT of repetition for the eventual natural production in speech.

    I have wanted to get my lingual frenulum reduced because I feel like I have a little bit of a tongue tie. I saw the dentist recently and asked him if he could help me get it taken care of but he looked at it and said he didn't think it was much of a problem especially since I am in my late thirties and can speak fine. I have felt it is a problem for a while and when I try the first exercise of sticking my tongue behind my top lip and going in circles I can feel the frenulum rake across my teeth. it may not be extreme but I do think it is in the way..

    • @SpeechSecrets

      The same happens for me when I do this exercise regarding the raking of the frenulum. Frenulums vary by size, thickness and length and, from my understanding, management and classification of ankyloglossia remains controversial. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK482295/
